A Very Important Notice
Death of Ursula Hunt

It is very sad to report that Ursula Hunt died in the Bega Hospital on 17 January 2025 following her collapsing on volunteer duties at Vinnies, Merimbula on 16 January. Ursula’s funeral will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 79 Main St, Merimbula at 11am on Thursday 30 January.

Writing on behalf of the Bega Valley Genealogy Society (BVGS), Ursula joined the Society some 33 years ago after moving, with her husband, from Melbourne to the Sapphire Coast firstly becoming treasurer of the Society. She remained on committee since then until August 2024.

In an interview with Ursula about two years ago she shared the many, many highlights of her experience at the BVGS – important quotes: “my pleasure is when people come in and I can help them and they leave with a big smile” and quote: “it was before computers - so much has changed in 32 years – what we take for granted now was quite new then.”

She was President of the Society for many years and librarian for 28 years until recently. A smiling face of the Society over the years – an enormous volunteering commitment. She had a love of volunteering with many, many organisations over the years and basically died doing what she loved, volunteering. A huge commitment to community and society.

Farewell Ursula – thank you for the time given to the BVGS. You will be sadly missed.

Shirley Sproats,

President,

Bega Valley Genealogy Society Inc.
